Before heading out to spend your day in the water, it's important to protect your family from too much exposure to the sun. Start off with a broad spectrum, kid-safe sunscreen like the Sunny Sunscreen from Episencial. Sunny Sunscreen is safe for kids 0+, free of strong scents, and water resistant for 80 minutes.

*Summer Tip: Apply a layer of moisturizing lotion, such as Episencial's Snuggly Lotion, to your child's skin before sunscreen to help make application super smooth and even.

Sunny Sunscreen is sun protection for the whole family.

Help to keep the sun off of your little fish's scalp and eyes with a Sun Cap from Bummis. These adorable sun hats provide generous coverage of the head, neck, and face and have an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating of 50. Available in 3 sizes for the perfect fit.

If you have a child in diapers, a reusable swim diaper will be your best friend this summer. There are some serious advantages of using a reusable swim diaper over a disposable. For one, most families will find that 2 or 3 reusable swim diapers are sufficient for one kid. This is a considerable savings over running to the store to buy disposables all summer. Also, most disposable swim diapers are not available in sizes small enough for young babies, so if you have a younger or smaller baby ready to take a dip in the pool, you'l need a reusable swim diaper to get a proper fit. Speaking of fit - swim diapers are meant to fit snuggly. This is the only way they'll be able to contain solid messes. Applecheeks swim diapers are known for their snug yet soft fit at the leg, allowing you to avoid accidents in the water while keeping baby's skin protected from harsh fabrics.

It's important to check your pool's swim diaper regulations before arriving. Some public pools require parents to "double-up" on swim diapers as an extra precaution. Bummis Swimmi Baby Swim Diapers come in prints so cute you can skip the suit, yet are trim enough to fit nicely under a suit of your choice.

*Summer Tip: All swim diapers are designed to only contain solids and to allow liquids to pass through the fabric. This means urine will pass through a swim diaper. Wait until you are ready to get in the water before changing your baby into their swim diaper to avoid accidents in the car seat or while you are holding them!

Make navigating the water easier with a Beachfront Baby Sling - a lightweight, fast-drying sling for the beach, pool, or water park. Keep a closer hold on wriggly babies in the water while being hands-free to help older siblings or sip on your poolside drink.

My favorite swim accessory for any family is a large wet bag. This is a must-have for any trip to the pool, beach, or amusement park water attractions. We use the Planetwise Hanging Wet/Dry Bag, which is large enough to hold wet towels and swim suits for our family of four, plus my youngest's "puddle jumper" flotation device. Planetwise wet bags are available in a large selection of sizes, styles, and prints.

The Blueberry Deluxe Laundry Tote is another roomy and stylish option for carrying your wet swim gear.

*Summer Tip: Keep a second, smaller sized wet bag, stocked with spare suits and a towel, in your car all summer long for those impromptu splashes in the creek or that unplanned sprinkler party while visiting friends.

Most beaches and public pools have a "No Glass" policy. Make sure you and your family have non-glass reusable drink and snack options to pack with your swim bag. We love the Eco Vessel Summit Triple Insulated Water Bottle. It's superior insulation keeps 24oz of your favorite drink cold for up to 36 hours. Also available in a smaller 17oz size perfect for the kids.

*Summer Tip: Be sure to pack plenty of fresh fruits or other healthy snacks in reusable snack bags, such as the Planetwise Snack Bags or Eco Lunchbox Stainless Containers to keep energy up and concession stand costs down.

Don't forget about after-swim care. I always pack our Hip Peas Detangler to get through all that salty and chlorine soaked hair.  Wash baby's skin soon after chlorine exposure and keep water logged and sun exposed skin hydrated with a safe, quality lotion. Try the Calming Lavender Lotion from Earth Mama Angel Baby and Playful Wash from Episencial.

Hip Peas Hair Detangler is perfect for after-swim tangles.

*Summer Tip: Use baby powder at the beach to help remove sticky sand from the kid's legs and feet. We love Episencial's Silky Powder.
